The basketball is a team sport which is played by two teams, each having five players. The aim of the game is to score points against each other by throwing a ball through an elevated, around ten feet high hoop which is known as the goal with in the organized rules. It is also considered as the most popular and widely watched sports in the world.
The points are won by putting the ball into the basket from the above. There are so many methods which can be used to score points like the dunking or slamming the ball into the rim, or any other way forcing the ball to fell into the basket from any distance. The team which is having the maximum score at the end of the game wins. However, the extra time or overtime is issued in case the points of both the teams are equal.
Through time, there are so many common techniques of shooting, dribbling and passing the ball has been developed. The one very common thing which probably everyone knows about basketball is that typically, the tallest members of a team play at the center or one of two forward positions, while the players who have shorter heights who possess the best ball handling skills and speed, play at the guard positions.
While, the professional basketball competitions are regulated, there are many numbers of variations of basketball sport has been developed for the purpose of casual playing. The interesting thing about basketball sport is that in many countries, it is popular as a spectator sport. People take more interest in watching the games rather than playing it. Another fact about basketball is that although the competitive basketball is an indoor sport activity played on a court, the less regulated variations played in the outdoors have become increasingly popular among both inner city and rural groups.
